How To Bond
HVAC SUPER PRO
SOLDERLESS COPPER BONDING
is simple to use.
Please view the online
instructional video prior to use.
Sand the outside
of the tubing and inside the connector using 60-grit sanding cloth
until it is shiny and free of all contaminants. Do not use a wire
brush. Do not wipe the sanded area or clean it with a cloth or
solvent. Leave the sanding dust on the tubing and connector. The use
of 60-grit emery cloth increases the bonding area by cutting deep
into the copper. Jackson Industries sell 60-grit emery cloth – item
number JFC 089.
Cut the tip from
the HVAC Super Pro bottle - the orifice should be small. Shake the
bottle and squeeze a small amount out (one or two drops) and discard
(this is the product that is in the tip of the tube and does not get
mixed when you shake the bottle.)
Squeeze a bead
of HVAC SUPER PRO completely around the circumference of the leading
edge of the tubing (about ¼-inch from the end); and squeeze a small
bead completely around the leading inner edge of the connector (as
close as possible to the edge.) See detailed notes below.
Insert the
tubing into the connector, bringing the tubing and connector into
proper alignment within 10 seconds - beginning when the tubing is
inserted. You must leave the bond undisturbed for 3 minutes. An aluminum
connection must be left undisturbed for 5 minutes.
In 12 minutes, the bond will withstand 850psi of refrigerant
pressure. Aluminum requires 20 minutes to reach 850psi. When fully
cured (approximately 2 hours) the bond will withstand 1200psi of
refrigerant pressure.
Detailed Notes:
Appling HVAC Super Pro:
3/8-inch tubing and smaller
- Place a thinner bead on the inside of the connector and the
outside of the tubing than is placed on 1/2-inch and larger tubing.
3/4-inch tubing: Apply two beads on the inside of the connector and the outside of the
tubing. One bead should be on the leading edge, and the second bead
should be approximately 50% of the way down the bonding area.
1-inch and larger tubing:
Spread HVAC Super Pro over the entire bonding area - inside the
connector and the outside of the tubing. Recommended methods for
spreading HVAC Super Pro include the use of the bottle nozzle, a
toothpick, or other non-absorbent applicator. It is important not to
wipe any area of the tubing or connector dry when spreading the
bonding agent.
HVAC SUPER PRO
will bond gaps up to 20 thousandths of an inch. It is equally
important that the fit
not be too tight as the connector will wipe off the HVAC SUPER
PRO from the tubing when inserted into the connector; and, this will
result in a poor bond. You should have 5 to 10 thousandths of an
inch clearance for an ideal bond.
When bonding
tubing to a threaded connector, it is best to tighten the connector
and then bond the tubing to the connector. However, if the bond is
made to the tubing first, do not tighten the connector by turning
the tubing; instead, use two wrenches to tighten the threaded
connector making sure the bond is not rotated.
If an error is
made in a connection, heat the bond with a torch and pull the bond
apart. Re-sand and re-apply HVAC SUPER PRO and re-connect the bond
following the directions as stated above. If other bonds are close,
protect them from the heat.
